Between Seasons

Gearing up for calving season is one of the best times on the farm.  Checking the breeding list and the calendar every day in preparation for the next few months is always so exciting.  With our embryo transfer and AI program, everyone is excited to see what we will have on the ground in the coming months.  Once we get done with harvest and before we start calving, we enter into a slower period.  We get so excited for calves to start dropping that it is hard to enjoy the slow.  Although there is always PLENTY to do around here, sometimes it is really nice to take time to rest.  After this fall, well really all of 2019, everyone needs a rest.  With the unusual weather and the long harvest, this year took a toll on farmers and ranchers all over the country.  No matter what your part is in the world, rest is important.

Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”  All to often we rush into the next season without taking time to recover from the season we left.  If you are between seasons, we encourage you to take the time to rest and recover.  Rest is not for the weak, it is more important now than ever to take a moment for yourself.  Mental health is a huge issue in our world, and especially in our industry.  We need to join arms and band together for one another.  We encourage everyone to find rest in their lives and find people they can trust to reach out to.  Take a moment to do a mental health check, with yourself or someone you know.  You never know how much you can influence someone by just reaching out.  Every day is a new day, it’s a new opportunity to rejuvenate your mind and heal.  New calves always remind us of new and fresh starts.  One of our favorite ways to see God in our lives is through the blessings of new calves.  Though this next season is coupled with sleepless nights and lots and lots of added stress, every day is a new opportunity to take care of yourself and to see the blessings in your life.
